Abstract:	The Dutch Jurist Hugo Grotius stated in his De Mare Liberum (The Freedom of the Seas, 1609), that the world's oceans had been gifted by God for the common use of mankind, for navigation, as well as for fishing. Four centuries later, the oceans have been completely overfished, risking the livelihood of millions and provoking irreversible damages to one of our most valuable resources.
