Resumen:	The goal of this thesis is to analyze the level of the mathematical knowledge and reading comprehension of the population between 16 and 65 years old. Firstly, this work tries to give a general vision of the educational system of the countries of the OECD. The second, most important part, consists an analysis of the current knowledge level in Spain. It explains the educational system and the influence and meaning of PIAAC. Furthermore, interviews with the active population are done. With these results, the importance and the relation between level of study, work experience and income and how these variables affect the cognitive skills, the type of employment and the influence of schooling are shown. Thirdly, an analysis was carried out to show the influence of the level of schooling, gender and age of the active population using different econometric models. The last part shows the results of these models and a conclusion of the thesis.
