Resum:	Gianfranco Rosi llega a Lampedusa tras sus múltiples viajes para investigar individuos y sociedades invisibles. El cineasta ha vivido en la isla durante más de un año buscando posibles narraciones tanto de los lugareños como de los migrantes que llegan diariamente a las costas de Lampedusa. En este trabajo se pone de manifiesto la capacidad del autor de saber seleccionar unos perfiles de isleños que se convierten en personajes empáticos y de inmediata capacidad comunicativa. Aparecen el disc jockey radiofónico Pippo, la señora María, un pescador de erizos y sobre todo el pequeño Samuele y Pietro Bartolo. El primero es un chico de doce años que va a la escuela y al que en su tiempo libre le gusta usar un tirachinas. Se marea en el barco y tiene un ojo vago pero difícilmente escapará a su futuro destino marinero. El segundo es el médico de cabecera de Lampedusa, obligado a descuidar a sus pacientes para poder asistir a los prófugos y certificar sus decesos. El documental registra la cotidianidad de la isla donde desembarcos, salvamentos y tragedias aumentan desmesuradamente. La normalización de este estado de alerta, suscita una serie de dudas sobre ética, solidaridad e identidad: conceptos que necesitan, tal y como reclaman las imágenes, una redefinición urgente.
Resum:	Gianfranco Rosi reaches Lampedusa after his multiple trips to investigate individuals and invisible societies. The filmmaker has lived on the island for more than a year looking for possible narrations from both the locals and the migrants who arrive daily on the shores of Lampedusa. This work highlights the ability of the author to know how to select profiles of islanders who become empathetic characters with an immediate communicative capacity. They are the radio disc jockey Pippo, Mrs. Maria, the hedgehog angler, but above all the little Samuele and Pietro Bartolo. The first is a boy of twelve who goes to school and who likes to use a slingshot in his spare time. He gets dizzy on the boat and has a lazy eye but will hardly escape to his future sailor fate. The second is the general practitioner of Lampedusa, forced to neglect his patients in order to assist the fugitives and certify their deaths. The documentary records the daily life of the island where landings, rescue and tragedies increase disproportionately. The normalization of this state of alert raises a series of doubts about ethics, solidarity and identity: concepts that need, as the images claim, an urgent redefinition.
