Resumen:	This article analyses and reflects on the collaborative L2 translation, from Chinese to Spanish, of Zhang Wenhong's book 2019 Guanzhuang Bingdubing: Cong Jichu Dao Linchuang (2019冠状病毒病--从基础到临床) 'covid-19: From Basics to Clinical Practice', which was written in the early days of the pandemic. The objectives of the article are: 1) to contextualise the study and practice of scientific L2 translation in China; and 2) to analyse the linguistic and extralinguistic challenges posed by the book's translation at a time when the pandemic had just begun and resources on the subject were scarce. Overcoming such challenges requires a great deal of effort, especially with regard to documentation, both in terms of consulting experts and searching for references, parallel texts, monolingual and bilingual dictionaries, encyclopaedias and treatises. We believe our reflection on the translation process, which was part of a real, collaborative translation project, could be relevant to both professional translation and translator training. Although L2 translation is often controversial, the article presents an authentic, contextualised example of a practice that is common in certain cases, such as that of Chinese.
