Este artículo examina el noveno combate de la Justa poética del patrón de Madrid san Isidro (1622), celebrado ante Felipe IV tras la canonización simultánea de cuatro santos españoles en un solo día. Sitúa las composiciones de doce poetas reunidos por Lope de Vega en el contexto de la renovación de la militancia católica que acompañó el ascenso de Felipe IV al trono, analizando el arsenal retórico y la imaginería dinástica y religiosa con que los poetas fusionaron la celebración de los santos con la exaltación del joven monarca, aún sin hazañas. Los versos de los concurrentes articulan aspiraciones de gloria imperial y de triunfo de la fe, que la historia frustrará. Con el último poema del conjunto, del heterónimo de Lope, Tomé de Burguillos, la exaltación coral da paso a la súplica y al desengaño personales, revelando el escepticismo latente del poeta ante sus propias ambiciones cortesanas. Un apéndice ofrece la primera edición completa del combate desde Cerdá (1777). |

This article examines the ninth contest of the Justa poética held in honor of Madrid's patron San Isidro (1622), celebrated before Philip IV following the simultaneous canonization of four Spanish saints in a single day. It situates the compositions of twelve poets convened by Lope de Vega within the context of the renewal of Catholic militancy that accompanied Philip IV's accession to the throne, analyzing the rhetorical arsenal and the dynastic and religious imagery through which the poets fused the celebration of the saints with the exaltation of a young monarch still without achievements. The participants' verses articulate aspirations of imperial glory and of triumph for the faith that historywould soon frustrate. With the final poem in the collection, by Lope's heteronym Tomé de Burguillos, the collective exaltation gives way to personal supplication and disillusion, revealing the poet's latent skepticism toward his own courtly ambitions. An appendix offers the first complete edition of thiscontest since Cerdá (1777). |
