Abstract: The work of the Argentine poet Alejandra Pizarnik and the Uruguayan Marosa di Giorgio unfolds into liminal and disturbing areas, both because of the atmospheres they construct, the characters or avatars of the poetic «self» that their texts harbour, and the questions they often pose to the reader. Here we propose to explore the connections between the liminal poetics of both authors and the fantastic in two of their most representative and disruptive books, La falena (1987) by Di Giorgio, and Extracción de la piedra de locura (1965) by Pizarnik. We will focus on an area of these poetry collections that overlaps with the fantastic: metamorphosis. We will attempt to show how the plurality of interpretative options presented by poetry do not necessarily involve a weakening of the fantastic, but rather often harbours the unease and discomfort of the ominous.
