The Digital Memory of Veterinary Ethnology (MDEV) consists of more than 2,000 photographs taken by Xavier Fàbregas i Comadran, professor at the Unitat Docent de Producció Animal, which is part of the Departament de Patologia i de Produccions Animals at the Facultat de Veterinària at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) in Bellaterra. The initial motivation was to offer the students quality teaching material (such as slides) to be able to teach the subject of VETERINARY ETHNOLOGY in a more visual way during the first years of the school. Old slides belonging to experienced teachers were used as well as new ones made with the occasion of technical visits. The thematic area includes most of the academic items of the subject of Veterinary Ethnology. It mainly covers the teaching period between 1986-1997. Slides were no longer used later in classes and seminars but photos in digital format and Powerpoint presentations.
The aim of the MDEV is to offer all professionals, technicians, researchers and students of related degrees a comprehensive and multidisciplinary digital tool which is useful for continuous learning and teaching. It is conceived as an open work, so new materials can be added to complete or complement the existing ones. The MDEV is the result of a digitization project that has been funded by the Associació Catalana d'Història de la Veterinària (Catalan Association of Veterinary History) (ACHV) and the Consell de Col·legis Veterinaris de Catalunya (Council of Veterinary Associations of Catalonia) (CCVC) and the UAB |
