Research group on Psychosocial Risks, Organization of Work, and Health (POWAH)
The research group on psychosocial risks, work organization and health of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (POWAH-UAB) is a multidisciplinary group composed by sociologists, biostatisticians and public health professionals from the faculty of medicine and the faculty of political science and sociology. We are a small but very active group, with permanent links with trade unions and other research groups in the health and social sciences fields, at national and international level. We have taken part in the core team responsible for the adaptation and validation of the three versions of the Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire (COPSOQ) in Spain, -a tool for the assessment and improvement of the psychosocial work environment-; in the Spanish psychosocial risks surveys (2005, 2010 and 2016); or in the two versions of the COTS survey (2020, 2021) with the aim to describe the working conditions and health status of the wage-earners workers in the COVID context in Spain.

It is well known that work has a great influence on the well-being of workers. In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, it seems evident that work organization, in particular, plays a key role to face and control a pandemic. [...]

Objective Researchers in public health are often interested in examining the effect of several exposures on the incidence of a recurrent event. The aim of the present study is to assess how well the common-baseline hazard models perform to estimate the effect of multiple exposures on the hazard of presenting an episode of a recurrent event, in presence of event dependence and when the history of prior-episodes is unknown or is not taken into account. Background: Zero-inflated models are generally aimed to addressing the problem that arises from having two different sources that generate the zero values observed in a distribution. In practice, this is due to the fact that the population studied actually consists of two subpopulations: one in which the value zero is by default (structural zero) and the other is circumstantial (sample zero). The abrupt onset of COVID-19, with its rapid spread, has had brutal consequences in all areas of society, including the workplace. In this paper, we report the working conditions, health, and tranquilisers and opioid analgesics use of workers during the first months of the ensuing pandemic, according to whether they were frontline workers or not and also according to sex. When dealing with recurrent events in observational studies it is common to include subjects who became at risk before follow-up. This phenomenon is known as left censoring, and simply ignoring these prior episodes can lead to biased and inefficient estimates. [...]
