The objective of this presentation is to prove that when translating food items the top priority is to convey the sociolinguistic values attached to them rather than their mere description. Although this premise can be extended to all cultural referents, it is more obvious when related to food since food has a social dimension and is fully versatile: food can define the identity of the characters related to it as it can specify age, genre, religion, wealth, quality or familiarity.
