ESSA Call for Papers (April 11th)SSC'14 - Social Simulation Conference 2014 (The 10th Conference of the European Social Simulation Association) invites researchers and practitioners from anthropology, archeology, computer sciences, economics, environmental sciences, geography, history, political sciences, psychology, sociology, among others, to participate in this conference, with the aim of providing further understanding on social complex problems by means of using computational simulations. Contributions on the latest results of research and discussions on emergent phenomena and modeling issues of a variety of research subjects related to social simulations are welcome, whether theoretical, experimental, practical, or technical.
SSC'14 will be co-organised with AE'14 and SPUHH. The registration fees cover both three events. Contributions workflowTypes of contributions accepted for the SSC'14 (ESSA'14):
Formatting instructions presented below apply to all three types of papers. In order to unify the layout of abstracts that will be distributed for the conference we strongly encourage you to format your contribution using the same the same template as is used for full papers. 1st - Full Paper / Extended Abstracts SubmissionIn order to submit a contributions authors must register to the EasyChair Conference System. Link: https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=socialsimulation2014 After registration in Easychair, authors are allowed to submit the full-paper (10-12 pp.) or the extended abstract (3-4 pp.) in PDF format before the papers/asbtracts submission deadline (April 11th). The contributions should provide sufficient background information, including adequate references and clearly indicate the original contribution. Authors must verify that all fonts used in the manuscript are embedded within the PDF file. Please, note that reviewing for the SSC'14 Conference is blind to the identities of the authors. The first page, on which the paper body begins, should include the title, abstract, keywords, but not the acknowledgements and names or affiliations of the authors. The references should include all published literature relevant to the paper, including previous works of the authors, but take care when referring to one’s own work: use the third person, rather than the first person. For example, say “Previously, Miguel (Miguel et al., 2000) has shown that...,” rather than “In our previous work (Miguel, 2000) we have shown that....”. Try to avoid including any information in the body of the paper or references that would identify the authors or their institutions. Such information may be added to the final camera-ready version for publication. /!\ During submission, authors must choose whether they want to submit their contribution to the Social Simulation Conference (10th ESSA annual Conference) or to the Simulating the Past to Understand Human History Conference, by selecting the appropriate GROUP. Note that AE2014 has a specific submission system <https://www.irit.fr/AE2014/>. Please, double check, if:
After submission, authors will receive a contribution ID (submission number) and an e-mail confirming the successful submission and can verify the state of their submission. Submission to SSC'14 implies that one of the authors will register and present the paper at the conference if the paper is accepted. 2nd - Contribution reviewThe submitted contributions are evaluated by at least 2 peer reviewers, who judge the paper according to a number of criteria: Relevance to the conference topics, Quality of presentation, Significance of treated topic, Novelty of the given contribution. 3rd - Contribution acceptance and CR final version preparationWhen the review process has been completed, the authors receive a notification of acceptance or rejection. If the paper has been accepted, the authors can prepare the final version for the proceedings e-publication. Authors of accepted contributions should address the issues raised by the reviewers and revise their papers accordingly Full papers, with CR format (see section Camera Ready instructions), must be submitted before the “CR Papers deadline”. Please, use the same EasyChair link : https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=socialsimulation2014 to upload all your source files (i.e. all files that are necessary and sufficient for reproducing your PDF using standard software) together with a PDF version. Note that this data will be used for producing the e-Proceedings on pendrive as well as for the Digital Library and the indexing repositories. Specifically, if you made any changes of title, abstract or list of authors in the final version, please, perform this changes at the paper submission system too. Alternatively, send modified versions directly to the Programme editor <socialsimulation2014@easychair.org>. All articles published in the conference e-Proceedings will be placed in the DDD-UAB Digital Library. To ensure that each conference conribution meets the specifications required by the Digital Library and the ESSA quality standards, the final version will be produced from the author's source by our Programme editor. To make the processing as fast as possible, authors are kindly requested to follow the instructions (see section Camera Ready instructions). 4th - RegistrationFor the contribution to be published in the conference proceedings it is required that at least one of the authors will register to the conference. TopicsAs in previous annual ESSA conferences, the topics of interest for the Social Simulation general track include, but are not limited to, the following open list. Unlisted but related topics are also acceptable, provided they fit in the domain of Social Simulation.Tools and methods
Applications of Agent-based Modelling
Paper publicationProceedingsAll accepted contributions, in CR final format, will be electronically published in the SSC'14 conference proceedings, and it will be included in the DDD-UAB digital repository and submitted for indexation by Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index (ISI) - Web of Science. Contributions must have at least one author who has registered for the conference with payment by May 31th 2014 for the paper to appear in the proceedings. Post-proceedingsA selection of the best papers will be invited for publication in a volume of a book series resulting from the conference, currently under discussion with “Social Science Computer Review” an other main publishers. AwardsPhD students who are principal authors will be considered for the “Best Student Paper - ESSA 2014” award (350 EUR) and the “Best Student Poster - ESSA 2014” (150 EUR). The awards will be announced and bestowed at the conference closing session. |
