WHne a sytactic structure exosts in the source and target languages, chances are high that the same structure is used in translations, even though the text conventions in the target language indicate different preferences. To investigate translations and comparable original text productions for lnguage conventions, syntactic choices in ten Norwegian translations of the same English scientific text was compared with syntactic choices in highly comparable Norwegian scientific texts on the same topic. Overuse of nominalizations was confirmed by the study, indicating priming, and also explaining some of the translations that were found problematic from a syntactic point of view.
