Abstract: This article discusses several examples of Chinese proverbial characters that have had great influence on the current Chinese language. The origin of these characters must be found both in China's real history as well as in legends, stories, novels, etc. These characters are related to characteristics and virtues valued by the Chinese, such as friendship, sense of justice, loyalty, altruism, etc. , as to other negative qualities such as evil, ambition, greed, conventionality, betrayal, intrigue, deception, naive goodness, etc. We also study several idioms which are based on reflections on human behavior. They reflect some stories that have had a great impact on the collective mind of the Chinese such as stories of unrequited love or fidelity to an idea even if it involves death itself. All these expressions show a group of specific-cultural features of the current Chinese language that any student or researcher of the Chinese language must know.
