Abstract:	The aim of this paper is to explore the ways in which Jack Kerouac's The Dharma Bums (1959) is representive of the countercultural movements that challenged the North-American society of the 1950s; in order to detect and analyse the 'rebellious' elements of the novel and in order to see how these relate to and display the cultural tensions of that time, a socio-historical contextualization of the text will be established (along with the main theoretical ideas that will serve as the basis of the analysis). The relation between Kerouac's Bums and these theoretical ideas will be looked at and dealt with, as a mean to see whether the novel succeeds in its oppositional effort and in conveying the ideological tensions inherent in the 50s society or not.
Abstract:	L'objectiu d'aquest treball és explorar les maneres en les que la novel·la de Jack Kerouac The Dharam Bums (1959) és representativa dels moviments contraculturals que van qüestionar la societat Nord Americana dels anys 50. Per detectar i analitzar els elements 'rebels' de la novel·la i per veure també com aquests mostren les tensions culturals d'aquella época, s'establirà primer una contextualitzacio histórica i social del text (juntament amb les idees teòriques que serviràn de base per dit análisis). La relació entre la novel·la i aquestes idees será tractada amb l'objectiu de discernir si aquesta té èxit en el seu exercisi d'oposició cultural i en plasmar les tensions ideològiques inerents de l'època o no.
