Desde su publicación en 1818, Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus de Shelley ha tenido una estrecha relación con el teatro, durante el siglo XIX, y, en el XX, con el cine; gracias a este vínculo el monstruo de Frankenstein ha desbordado su origen literario y se ha mantenido en la imaginería popular desde entonces y hasta la fecha. Este personaje ha sido recreado en la escena, teatral y cinematográfica, a lo largo de casi dos siglos concentrando y reflejando la visión particular de cada época alrededor de los riesgos de jugar a ser dios y los monstruos que vienen con ello. En el caso del teatro la criatura de Frankenstein hizo su primera aparición en 1823, en la adaptación de Peake, y gracias a su éxito la novela tuvo una segunda impresión; así es como también el teatro ha ayudado a mantener en existencia a este monstruo. En 2011, el afamado director de cine británico, Danny Boyle puso en escena una nueva adaptación del clásico de Mary Shelley para el National Theatre de Londres; utilizando los recursos de la tecnología, en un medio como el teatro que todo mundo anuncia en extinción pero que sin embargo se mueve, para animar a este ya clásico monstruo y presentarlo de forma realista, aterradora y terriblemente humana. |

Since its first publishing in 1818, Shelley's Frankenstein; or The Modern Prometheus has been in close relationship first with the stage in the XIXth century, and then in the XXth with the cinema; due to this bond Frankenstein's monster has exceeded its literary origin and has continued to be present in popular imagery until the present day. This character has been recreated in the stage and cinema though almost two centuries, embodying and reflecting the particular point of view of each age cconcerning the risks of playing god and the monsters that come of it. Frankenstein's creature first appeared on the stage in1823, in Peake's dramatization, and due to the success of the play the novel had a second edition; in this way the stage has helped to maintain this monster in existence. In 2011, famed British film director Danny Boyle staged a new dramatization of Mary Shelley's classic for the National Theatre of London making use of contemporary stage technology. He thus managed to animate this classic monster, presenting it in a realistic, frightening and human way, in the theatrical medium whose extinction had been widely heralded yet which also continues to move. |
