Título variante: | The historical translation of Spanish wines in the works of Shakespeare |
Fecha: | 2017 |
Resumen: | The aim of this article is to analyze the references to Spanish wines in translations of Shakespeare's Henry IV (Parts I and II) published in Spain in the 19th and 20th centuries. Although various studies have dealt with this topic, from the pioneering work by Duque (1981) to the more recent one by Leal Cruz (2015), no chronological analysis has been carried out to provide a historical view of the translation of these references over the centuries. Similarly, no research has evaluated the translation techniques employed, or how they may have affected intercultural communication between the Elizabethan and Spanish societies. This article therefore aims to analyze the original Shakespearean texts and their translations in order to detect meaningful alterations in the translation of the wine references and to reflect on how these may have affected the readersâ understanding. Also, the analysis will propose a number of conclusions regarding the translators selected and the possibility that they may have translated âagainst each otherâ due to their personal criteria. |
