Resumen: The rise of technology in Translation Studies demands new approaches at the academic level and offers new possibilities to the professionals working in this field. One of these possibilities is audiovisual translation (AVT) studies. As part of the AVT, the ever-important area of Media Accessibility (MA) and subtitling for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (SDH) are an example. Due to recent international and national legislation, such as the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities by the EU through the proposal for a European Accessibility Act (EAA) and the Audiovisual Media Service Directive (AVMSD), MA is becoming a priority for governments and the need for professionals in this field is increasing. Within this context, SDH has been evolving quickly and new technological developments, such as the velotype keyboard and speech-recognition systems, bring it closer to established forms of translation and interpreting. Real-time intralingual subtitling involves skills closely linked to simultaneous interpreting. Given that interpreters can easily be trained to become real-time intralingual subtitlers, it can be considered as an interesting new niche market in Translation Studies. Still, there is a lack of well established and certified training for acquiring the competences needed to carry out real-time intralingual subtitling, that make audiovisual content accessible to Deaf and Hard of Hearing audiences. Within this context, the European project Live Text Access (LTA, 2018-1-DE01-KA203-004218) aims to define the competences for real-time intralingual subtitling for two professional profiles, namely respeakers and velotypists, and also to provide open source certified training materials for the development of the skills to train a new breed of real-time intralingual subtitlers. This EU project aims to fill the training gap of these professionals and align academic and vocational training in the real-time intralingual subtitling field.
