Abstract: The territorial appropriation of the Amazon region is not something recent. This question goes back to colonization, but is in the 1960s when the territory was seen as a strategic empty place which could serve as a means to quickly solve several problems that the country was facing at that moment. One of these constructions is the study case in this research: the Belo Monte Hydroelectric Dam (BMHD), located on Brazil's Xingu river, in the state of Pará. This project is the biggest investment of the Programa de Aceleração do Crescimento (PAC), a plan promoted by Lula da Silva to foster development in Brazil. It has been so controversial in Brazilian society because of its environmental and social impacts on the territory and on the Indigenous tribes.
