Two copper(II) complexes, both involving the anionic 3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)benzoate ligand (TFMBz), have been prepared and their structure elucidated by single crystal-X ray diffraction. [Cu(TFMBz)2(ISNA)2] (1) is a mononuclear complex, in which the sphere of coordination of Cu(II) is completed by two neutral isonicotinamide (ISNA) auxiliary ligands. [...]

Here, we report the design, synthesis, and functional testing of enzyme-powered porous micromotors built from a metal-organic framework (MOF). We began by subjecting a presynthesized microporous UiO-type MOF to ozonolysis, to confer it with mesopores sufficiently large to adsorb and host the enzyme catalase (size: 6-10 nm). [...]

The porosity of a propylitized granite from Charroux (France), with no fractures or sealed fractures, inreases by more than four times from the unaltered (0. 3%) to the altered rock (1. 4%). This evolution results from several local porosity modifications which occur at different scales in the rock: (1) at the core scale, from 10 to 10 m, where rock porosity changes as a function of rock-forming mineralogical composition; (2) at the mineral scale, from 10 to 10 m, where porosity depends both on the nature of the rock-forming mineral and its clay mineral alteration. Various physicochemical characteristics of a sepiolite sample from the Eskişehir area, Turkey, were investigated to help in making predictions about possible uses of the material. The sample was examined by chemical analysis (CA), thermal analysis (DTA/TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, particle-size analysis (PSA), linear dilatometry (LD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), mercury porosimetry (Hg-Por. The thermal maturity of samples of the Posidonia Shale collected from the Hils Syncline, northern Germany, varies significantly as a function of location indicating variations in local history. Synchrotron X-ray diffraction was used to document the composition and the preferred orientation of four samples of the Posidonia Shale with different degrees of maturity (0. [...]

Mesoporous materials with pore diameters in the range 2-50 nm forming tubular or fibrous structures are of great interest due to their unique properties. Because they are commonly used as sorbents and catalyst carriers, knowledge of their surface area and porosity is critical. [...]

We report the use of bis-catecholic polymers as candidates for obtaining effective, tunable gatekeeping coatings for mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) intended for drug release applications. In monomers, catechol rings act as adhesive moieties and reactive sites for polymerization, together with middle linkers which may be chosen to tune the physicochemical properties of the resulting coating. Controlling the shape of metal-organic framework (MOF) crystals is important for understanding their crystallization and useful for myriad applications. However, despite the many advances in shaping of inorganic nanoparticles, post-synthetic shape control of MOFs and, in general, molecular crystals remains embryonic. [...]
