Dr. Carmen Bestué Salinas
She graduated in law from the University of Barcelona and PhD in Translation and Intercultural Studies at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. She has also studied international law and intellectual property at the University of Berkeley, California and has a degree in commercial law and comparative law at the University Panthéon-Assas, Paris II. She's an assistant lecturer in the Department of Translation and Interpretation of the UAB, where she teaches legal translation from English into Spanish in grade and master. She is the author of: Contracts translated: the translation of the license agreements for use of computer programs (Tirant lo Blanch, 2013) and twenty publications including journal articles and book chapters. She was a member of the research group Tradumática and, since 2010, is a member of MIRAS group. She has participated in ten research projects financed in competitive calls. She has taught seminars in various universities, national and foreign and has conducted a research at the prestigious institution ESIT Sorbonne-Nouvelle University, Paris 3.
Dr. Mariana Orozco Jutorán
She holds a degree and a doctorate in Translation and Interpreting and won the special doctoral award of the UAB with her PhD Dissertation "Building and validating measuring instruments for the acquisition of translation competence". She teaches general and specialised translation from English to Spanish as well as Methodology of Translation at the undergraduate Degree in Translation and Interpreting and at the MA in Translation, Interpreting and Intercultural Studies at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. She is also the coordinator of the Translation and Intercultural Mediation programme of this MA.
She is the author of the book "Methodology for English to Spanish Translation" (ed. Comares, 2012) as well as more than 30 translation journal articles and book chapters. Her research focuses mainly on the methodology of translation and on specialised translation. She has been part of three consolidated research groups and is currently a member of MIRAS (2014SGR545). Since 1996, she has participated in a dozen research funded projects of European, national and international scope, and has been a visiting researcher in the UK on several occasions. Dr. Marta Arumí
She holds a degree in Translation and Interpreting from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and won the special doctoral award of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra for her PhD dissertation. She holds a Masters Degree in Conference Interpreting from the Universidad de La Laguna and a Masters Degree in Training for Trainers in Conference Interpreting at the School of Translation and Interpreting from the University of Geneva. She teaches conference interpreting and public service interpreting at the undergraduate Degree in Translation and Interpreting and at the MA in Translation, Interpreting and Intercultural Studies at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. She is also the coordinator of the Conference Interpreting programme of this MA.
Her research focuses mainly on the didactics of conference interpreting and on public services interpreting. She is the author of more than 25 specialized articles in national and international journals and has supervised several doctoral theses. She is the coordinator of the MIRAS research group (2014SGR545) since its creation in 2009 and has led several funded research projects.
Dr. Anabel Borja Albi
She holds a PhD in Translation (UAB), BA in English and German Studies (UV), Master in Business Law (UV), University Teaching Postgraduate, Diploma in Foreign Trade (CEIM) and Diploma in Optometry (UCM). Sworn translator and interpreter for the English language appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has worked as a professional translator since 1990 for editorials, multinational companies, courts, notaries and law firms in the legal and medical fields.
Since 1991 works as a lecturer in legal translation at the Universitat Jaume I which coordinates the area of legal translation of the GENTT Group. She has published over 80 research papers and has participated in 20 research projects, in 5 of them as principal investigator and in more than 50 activities for knowledge transfer to the productive sector. Her research has focused on the contrastive analysis and classification of legal texts by electronic corpus based on the concept of textual genre; the teaching of specialized translation and the application of new technologies to the highly specialized translation.
Dr. Anna Gil Bardají
She has a degree in Arabic Studies at the University of Barcelona and a PhD in Translation and Intercultural Studies at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. She teaches Arabic-Spanish/Catalan translation and Arabic Language in the Department of Translation and Interpretation (UAB), in the Official Master of Translation, Interpretation and Cultural Studies (UAB) and in the Master Arab and Islamic World (UB) since 2001.
She is the author of the book "Translating al-Andalus: the discourse of the Other in the Spanish Arabism" (Edwin Mellen Press, 2009) and of some twenty publications among journal articles and book chapters. She is a member of MIRAS group since its creation in 2009 and since 2004 has participated in seven funded research projects, both nationally and internationally. She has taught seminars in various foreign universities and translated a dozen books from Arabic and French into Spanish and Catalan.
Dr. Mireia Vargas Urpí
She graduated in Translation and Interpreting and has a PhD in Translation and Intercultural Studies at the UAB. She is currently a visiting professor at the Department of Translation and Language Sciences at the University Pompeu Fabra, where she teaches intercultural mediation and general translation from English to Spanish and Catalan. She also teaches interpreting at the Master in Translation Studies of the UPF, Chinese-Spanish public service interpreting at the Workshop in Chinese Studies of the University of Lleida, and public service interpreting at the Master in Legal Translation and Court Interpreting of the UAB.
Her research focuses on public service interpreting and intercultural mediation for the Chinese living in Catalonia, and she is also interested in issues related to intercultural communication and non-verbal communication. She has published several articles in academic journals as well as book chapters, and has participated in conferences at national and international level. She is a member of MIRAS (2014SGR545), a consolidated research group by the Catalan Agency for Management of University and Research Grants. Since 2010 she has participated in ten funded research projects, nine at a national level and one European project (SOS-VICS, led by the University of Vigo).
Dr. Francisco Vigier Moreno
He holds a degree and a doctorate in Translation and Interpreting by the Universidad de Granada and is a Sworn Translator-Interpreter of English appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. He currently teaches at the Universidad Pablo de Olavide of Seville, where he teaches, among others, legal translation and interpreting English-Spanish in the undergraduate Degree in Translation and Interpreting. In addition, he teaches specialised legal translation (Spanish-English) in the MA in Intercultural Communication, Public Service Interpreting and Translation at the Universidad de Alcalá, which is part of the European Master's in Translation network of the European Commission Directorate-General for Translation.
As a researcher he has mainly focused his activities on the fields of official translation, legal translation and translator training, and is the author of several articles and book chapters. As a member of the research groups FITISPOS (Universidad de Alcalá) and AVANTI (Universidad de Granada), he has participated in several research projects, including his recent collaboration in the QUALETRA project, funded by the European Commission Department Directorate-General for Justice.

Dr. Noelia Burdeus Domingo
She holds a PhD and Master in Translation, Interpreting and Intercultural Studies from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona; a Master in Translation and Interpreting Research from the Universitat Jaume I; a Master in Teaching Catalan as a First and Second Language from the Universitat de Barcelona; a University Expert Degree in Pedagogic Foundations and Applied Linguistics for Teaching and Learning Spanish as a Second or Foreign Language, from the Universidad de La Rioja; and a BA in Translation and Interpreting (ES-CAT-EN-FR) from the Universitat Jaume I.
She has been a member of the research group MIRAS (2014SGR545) since 2010. In 2012, she worked as a research assistant in the ARAFI Research Project, Traducción e inmigración: la formación de traductores e intérpretes para los servicios públicos. Nuevas soluciones para nuevas realidades. In the academic year 2012-2013, she conducted a research residency in the Centre d'Études Ethniques des Universités Montréalaises (CEETUM), in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. From 2013 to 2016, she worked as doctoral researcher and lecturer in the Translation and Interpreting Department of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where she taught interpreting courses in the Translation and Interpreting undergraduate degree, as well as in the MA in Translation, Interpreting and Intercultural Studies. Her research activities focus on public service interpreting; she has published articles in academic journals and has participated in several renowned seminars, congresses, courses and scientific dissemination events at a national and an international level, such as Critical Link 7.
Dr. Lara Domínguez Araújo
She holds a BA in Translation and Interpreting (University of Vigo) and a PhD in Translation and Intercultural Studies (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona). She is a sworn translator and interpreter of English, appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, and holds a European Masters in Conference Interpreting (University of Lisbon). She obtained her Master of Research in Translation and Paratranslation at the University of Vigo, where she works as a part-time lecturer of interpreting since 2006.
Her research focuses on assessment for learning and conference interpreting education, as it can be read in her articles in national and international journals and books. As a researcher or a trainer, she has taken part in nationally funded research projects, as well as in locally and EU funded multidisciplinary and educational projects. Besides, she has been invited to take part as a speaker in seminars and round tables on formative assessment and as an external trainer to EMCI programs.
Marina Arrasate
She holds a degree in physics from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. She studied her bachelor degree in UCM and the specialisation in theoretical physics in Université XI -Paris Sud and Universitat de Barcelona.
Since year 2010 she combined her job as a secondary teacher with her academic interests and on year 2012 she obtained her master’s degree in Creative Writing from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. She has collaborated with several projects aimed at strengthening community’s social fabric and she is currently teaching Spanish and alphabetization in the association Poble Sec per a Tothom
On year 2014 she started her PhD on Translation, Interpreting and Intercultural Studies addressing the access to public services of the Pakistani women of Barcelona and on 2015 she became a member of the research group MIRAS (2014SGR545).
Her research focuses on access to public services and linguistic and cultural issues in public services settings. She is also interested in education, social networks, community interpreting, human rights and gender issues.
Alice Johnson
She is the director of the Cairo Community Interpreter Project (CCIP) in the Center for Migration and Refugee Studies (CMRS) of the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) at The American University in Cairo (AUC).
She has carried out community interpreting training programs and technical assistance workshops with several NGOs and international agencies working with refugees and migrants in different countries, including Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, Tanzania, Thailand, Turkey, and SAR Hong Kong.
Along with her CCIP responsibilities, she is conducting her doctoral research in the Autonomous University of Barcelona Department of Translation and Interpretation. Her research interests center on community interpreter training pedagogies in migration and refugee settings.
