Teaching and research activities related to the analysis and development of organisations in general, and educational organisations in particular, was seen by the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) as an investment in 1981 as was the addition of Professor JoaquÃn GairÃn Sallán and his commitment to promote this area of reflection and pedagogical practice. The Organisational Development Team (EDO) is the result of a process that lasted more than two decades where working groups were organised around existing educational demands and research topics that arose as a priority.
The EDO Team was established as a space for meetings, exchanges and the fostering of ideas and research into the field of organisations. Authorised as an ANE (Authorisation of a Specific Name) group by the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 1999 and recognised as a consolidated research group (Resolution by the Department of Universities, Research and Information Society) on October 18th, 2005, and revalidated in the AGAUR 2009 (SGR2009-397) announcement, its central research topic is the nature and development of organisations dedicated to training.
The EDO group’s priority objectives are related to the analysis of educational organisations, the study of change processes and the utility of improvement strategies that are used or can be used. They are consistently subjects of interest: the nature of educational organisations, their typology, management systems and institutional management, institutional dynamics, internal and external assessment systems, change strategies, resistance to change, the role of Principals and the effect of new technologies, all in reference to non-university and university educational institutions and other types of institutions such as vocational training centres, health organisations, leisure centres and other educational services.
