We study heat rectification in composition-graded nanowires, with nonlocal and nonlinear effects taken into account in a generalized Guyer-Krumhansl equation. Using a thermal conductivity dependent on composition and temperature, the heat equation is solved. [...]

We consider heat conduction in a superlattice with mobile defects, which reduce the thermal conductivity of the material. If the defects may be dragged by the heat flux, and if they are stopped at the interfaces of the superlattice, it is seen that the effective thermal resistance of the layers will depend on the heat flux. Every living creature on Earth is made of atoms of the various bioelements that are harnessed in the construction of molecules, tissues, organisms, and communities, as we know them. Organisms need these bioelements in specific quantities and proportions to survive and grow. [...]

We review the basic ideas and main results of our analysis of shear-induced effects in polymer solutions and blends. The analysis combines thermodynamic and hydrodynamic descriptions. The flow contribution to the free energy of the solution is described in the framework of extended irreversible thermodynamics, which relates the viscoelastic constitutive equations to a non-equilibrium entropy that depends on the viscous pressure tensor. The main objective of this paper is to generalize the Extended Irreversible Thermodynamics in order to include the anomalous transport in systems in non-equilibrium conditions. Considering the generalized entropy, the corresponding flux and entropy production, and using the time fractional derivative, we have derived a space-time generalized telegrapher's equation with a fractional nested hierarchy which can be used in separate developments for the mass transport, for the heat conduction and for the flux of ions. We present the state of the art on the modern mathematical methods of exploiting the entropy principle in thermomechanics of continuous media. A survey of recent results and conceptual discussions of this topic in some well-known non-equilibrium theories (Classical irreversible thermodynamics CIT, Rational thermodynamics RT, Thermodynamics of irreversible processes TIP, Extended irreversible hermodynamics EIT, Rational Extended thermodynamics RET) is also summarized.

Three Duality Symmetries between Photons and Cosmic String Loops, and Macro and Micro Black Holes

We present a review of two thermal duality symmetries between two different kinds of systems: photons and cosmic string loops, and macro black holes and micro black holes, respectively. It also follows a third joint duality symmetry amongst them through thermal equilibrium and stability between macro black holes and photon gas, and micro black holes and string loop gas, respectively.
