With the aim to improve mixture design, particularly in regions vulnerable to climate change, we tested several forage communities following the biodiversity-ecosystem function (BEF) framework. We sowed monocultures and 4-species mixtures from a pool of 7 forage species in a sub-Mediterranean region (Eastern Pyrenees) and assessed the diversity effects on yield and resistance to weed invasion. Grasslands are one of the major sinks of terrestrial soil organic carbon (SOC). Understanding how environmental and management factors drive SOC is challenging because they are scale-dependent, with large-scale drivers affecting SOC both directly and through drivers working at small scales. [...]

[...] In the study of human and global change impacts on plants and ecosystems, it is necessary to understand how genes, whole plants, species and communities interact with the environment. With this aim, current ecophysiological studies are conducted at different spatial and temporal scales, from molecule to ecosystem, and from seconds to centuries. [...]

Ozone concentrations in the Pyrenees have exceeded the thresholds for forest protection since 1994. We surveyed the severity of visible O₃ injuries, crown defoliation, and tree mortality of Pinus uncinata, the dominant species in subalpine forests in this mountain range, along two altitudinal and O₃ gradients in the central Catalan Pyrenees and analysed their relationships with the local environmental conditions.
