This article aims to do a theoretical siege of pathological metaphor by analysing Samanta Schweblin's short story «La respiración cavernaria», an outstanding representative of a rather unusual phenomenon in illness literature (a non-mimetic illness narrative), on three fronts: in «Casa de retiro Macondo» the process of memory loss entails the failure of «identity» as the skein of memories unravels; in «Can the patient speak?» we interrogate the incommunicability between the parallel worlds of the healthy and thesick by recovering the resistant instances of a certain postcolonial narrative; and in «Fenomenología schwebliniana de los contenedores» we will take posthuman thought to the extreme in order to re-signify the impossible agency of a «soulless» body.

El recorrido histórico de los bestiarios desde el Medioevo hasta nuestros días nos permite reconocer cierto sesgo machista que lo caracteriza desde sus inicios; sin embargo, en la novela breve Bestiaria vida, de Cecilia Eudave, la autora mexicana subvierte estos condicionamientos y se apropia del mecanismo y la estructura del bestiario tradicional desde una óptica del cuerpo y las preocupaciones metafísicas de la mujer.
Through Donna Haraway's feminist theories and her position in relation to sight, I analyze the fantastic characters and creatures of the short novel Bestiaria vida, written by Cecilia Eudave. A historical examination of the bestiaries from the Middle Ages to the present day allows us to recognize a macho bias that characterizes them, however, in this novel, the Mexican author subverts these conditions and appropriates the mechanism and structure of the traditional bestiary from a female point of view and metaphysical concerns.
