Felines use pheromones to communicate. A study tested the effectiveness of two pheromones secreted by the domestic cat in improving the welfare of lions living in a zoo. In gel diffusor form and placed around the animals' enclosure, it was found that they increase the quantity of time that lions employ in "play", in social behaviour and activity, and reduce the anxiety and stress caused by captivity.
