Can, Nazir Ahmed (Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro)
For many scholars who have studied the practice, translation is, among many other things, a form of poetic transcreation. In a similar way, the landscape, due to its ability to generate meaning, invites the writer to move from one cultural code to another. [...]

Based on the idea that translations contribute to the formation of cultural images and that paratexts play an important part, this study comprises a content analysis of 432 covers and a qualitative interpretation of the obtained data, for which the notions of orientalism and polysystem have been useful. Self-censorship and censorship in Nitobe Inazo, Bushido : The soul of Japan, and four translations of the work
/
Rodríguez Navarro, Mª Teresa (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) ;
Beeby, Allison (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona)
This paper looks at self-censorship and censorship in Bushido: The Soul of Japan (1900) by Nitobe, Inazo (1862-1933) as well as in four different translations of the book. In Bushido, probably the best known of Nitobe's books, the renowned Japanese writer and diplomat tried to act as an inter-cultural mediator between East and West and export the concepts and values of Bushido (the path of the samurai). [...] Against a besieged literature : fictions, obsessions and globalisations of Chinese literature
/
Prado Fonts, Carles (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya)
Chinese literature in the 20th century has seen how the combination between, on one hand, the canon established by Socialist realism in China and, on the other, the approaches of Area Studies in the West imposed a limited vision and a partial and slanted assessment of its complexity. [...]
/
[...] This essay examines Roberto Arlt's first texts from Morocco, the Aguafuertes marroquíes, by comparing them to the 1930ies films The Mistress of Atlantis and Morocco. Guarné, Blai (Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Departament d'Humanitats)
/
Casas-Tost, Helena (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) ;
Both the demand and offer to study Chinese language in Spain has grown significantly. In this context and after the implementation of the CEFR, this study addresses three main objectives: to offer an overview of the Spanish universities and Official Language Schools where Chinese is taught; to make a critical analysis of the different existing curricula and proposals to adapt CFER to Chinese in order to identify those aspects that do not meet the needs of the society; and, to make suggestions to improve the current situation of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language.
