Abstract: Easy-to-read language and plain language have traditionally been applied to printed content in order to make content easier to understand and cater for diverse user needs. However, in our audiovisual and digitized society, there is a need to go beyond the written word and create audiovisual content and audiovisual access services that are also easier to understand. EASIT (2018-1-ES01-KA203-05275), an Erasmus + project, aims to define the skills of the professionals involved in creating easy-to-understand content, with an emphasis on how already existing professionals such as audio describers or subtitlers could expand their skills to cater for innovative hybrid access services in audiovisual media. To that end, EASIT has analysed existing practices in Europe by means of a survey and has gathered input from professionals through a series of focus groups and interviews. Based on this qualitative feedback, EASIT has produced recommendations on how existing access services could be made easier to understand. EASIT has also identified the skills the professionals creating this new services should have. The next steps in the project will be to propose a modular curriculum design to train experts and develop flexible multilingual open educational resources. EASIT will run from 2018 until 2021, led by Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). The team is made up of universities (University of Trieste, SDI München, SUH, University of Vigo), NGOs working with end users (Dyslexiforbundet, RISA) and a broadcaster (Slovenian TV). The presentation will offer a wide overview of the project, highlighting the different steps and main achievements.
